(1.118 m o.s.l.) is situated on the right side of the valley, not far from San Martino in Badia,
right where the lower valley slowly broadens out and welcomes the visitor with an amazing landscape, surrounded by the majestic Sasso Croce and Sas Pütia. The name Pingelìn appears for the first time in 1296 on a document of the abbey Castel Badia. Eight years later we find the name Piklein (Friedrich von Piklein).
Nowadays Piccolino is an important historical centre as it is home to the first social infrastructures of the Val Badia. The house Ćiasa dl Maier (built in the year 1650), which served as lodging for important people working in the iron production in the near locality of Alfur, is a good example of past times.
The St. Anthony chapel dlijia de Sant Antone dating from the same century has still a lot of visitors. Just above the church lies the building Ciastel Freick, built in the 14th century. It used to be a guest house and later a nursing home. Furthermore, in Piccolino you find the social district Val Badia and a pharmacy.
Thanks to the new ski-lift construction in Piccolino (1 km from San Martino) the connection Plan de Corones to Alta Badia and to the Sella Ronda has become true. Piccolino has been transformed into a modern centre which includes parking places, an info point, a ski pass office, a ski rental, a ski depot and a restaurant. The red-marked (difficulty degree) slope which has been arranged in addition to the lift reaches the Piccolino, from where a ski bus starts every 20 minutes in order to guarantee the connection with the ski area Alta Badia.
Also in the warm season Piccolino has a lot to offer: relaxing walks and hikes in an untouched nature enable an unforgettable experience. In a few minutes you reach the nature parks Puez-Odle and Fanes-Senes-Braies. Piccolino is surely a place for young and old, for hike-experts and beginners, for nature and animal lovers and for those who want to experience a unique holiday.
